Assessment of Subclinical Cardiovascular Disease in NAFLD Patients

Background and Aim: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in the absence of diabetes mellitus hypertension also predisposes to atherosclerotic changes. We conducted an observational cross-sectional study from January 2022 2023 at IMS-BHU, Varanasi, subclinical cardiovascular NAFLD patients. Methods: 100 consecutive patients, non-hypertensive non-diabetic, aged 18-50 years were included study, as age- gender-matched healthy controls without known factors. All participants underwent blood investigations, pressure measurement, anthropometry, USG abdomen, transient elastography, 2D echocardiography. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), epicardial adipose tissue (EATT), arterial stiffness by aortic pulse wave velocity (APWV), endothelial dysfunction flow-mediated dilation (FMD), global longitudinal strain left ventricle (GLS), LV diastolic function (E/A ratio, E/e ratio), LVEF calculated for each individual. Results: observed values CIMT 0.65±0.18mm vs 0.49±0.11mm, EATT 7.17±1.59mm 4.13±0.11mm, APWV 9.14±2.32m/sec 7.27±0.59m/sec, FMD % 10.89±2.99 15.94±4.67, E/e' ratio 7.18±1.66 6.62±0.86, GLS -17.29±5.47 -19.72±1.63 %, E/A 1.45±0.15 1.36±0.34 patients controls, respectively.
